Monitoring and Reporting
Operating and Maintenance

The most accurate and reliable way to monitor your system is to introduce a smart device (the AHC) that sits in between the REnU, your utility connection, and your AC panel. From here, we can monitor the total electricity generated by the REnU on a real-time basis. We can then monitor where that generated electricity is delivered, how much, and when. As well, the system monitors how much electricity is drawn from the utility to compensate for periods when the REnU is unable to provide you with 100% of your needs.

In addition to monitoring general production and usage information, Citizen also monitors the individual performance of the AC PV panels in your REnU. We are able to do this through power-line communication, or PLC. And because our systems are PLC ready, we have the ability to offer you value-added services down the road.

Monitoring is extremely important for maintaining your REnU at its optimum capacity, and for providing you with valuable information that can be used to enhance your relationship with your local utility. For example, with information of this kind, you can argue that you are providing peak power to the utility at a rate far less than what they are presently purchasing it for.

Reporting

The device that monitors your energy profile reports to us on a daily basis via a simple ISP connection. The data reported is archived in our database and used for several reasons. The first and foremost is to analyze the performance of your REnU. The data received contains both explicit and implicit performance facts. The AHC may report that a particular AC PV panel is not functioning; however, there could be a system-wide issue that would not be the result of a single AC PV panel. Here we utilize comparative analysis. By using comparative analysis, Citizen can determine the probability of your system not performing to its optimum capacity. We measure against projected, historical, and climatic adjustments on an individual basis, geographical basis, and vintage basis (the year your REnU was manufactured and installed). From this analysis, Citizen can issue a work order to assess, repair, or replace some portion of your REnU.

The second use of this data is to report it back to you through our web portal. The data reported back to you is both line-item and graphical. A daily report of the generation and consumption of electricity creates an electric profile for you that can be used to help manage your electric service. Finally, this data is used to generate an accurate accounting of your system performance; thus, we can issue you a clear and exact billing – something that is not always the case in your current situation.
